A detailed account of the Bears Deluxe ecosystem
Ok — Great! And welcome… You’ve made it this far in an attempt to wrap your mind around the fact that you’re maybe starting to lean towards the possibility of rationalizing the notion of convincing yourself that the Ethereum network based Bears Deluxe NFT collection and ecosystem is worth taking a bit of time to explore — thoroughly! phew. Nice! Whether you end up with a bear or a bee in your wallet or not, deluxe intervention hath guided you thus far to assist in helping you draw your own conclusions. For this very reason, we deem you deluxe. Let’s begin!
The aim of this article is to provide you — the past, present, or possibly future owner of Bears Deluxe NFT’s with all of the necessary information to understand the components that make up the ecosystem. We will compile and break down our three current collections — Bears, Bees, and Hives. Thereafter we will discuss $HONEYD and how it fuels the Bears Deluxe ecosystem. Let’s start to break things down:
Overview
Bears Deluxe is much more than a simple profile picture or utility token NFT project. We call it an ecosystem for a reason. The inner workings and moving parts of the system are built on top of a foundation that emphasizes interoperability, upgradability, and expansion.
So what does this even mean? It means that the team can continue to innovate and grow the system over time with no needed end goal in sight. We have built our ecosystem in such a way that allows us to create new utility and gamified elements that provide an immersive and fun experience for our holders via an interactive and well laid out website and user interface. The team will strive to continue building and releasing new innovative web3 tech in the form of updates, upgrades, NFT’s, games, and additions to the ecosystem thanks to our proxy smart contract. Cool. Let’s take a look at how it’s all laid out.
Components of the Ecosystem
At the time of writing, the Bears Deluxe ecosystem is made up of 3 NFT collections and an ERC20 utility token across 7 smart contracts:

What do I get and why do I want it?
Right. Straight to the point. I like it. So, from the top then?
GAMIFICATION: Adding game mechanics into nongame environments, like a website, online community, learning management system or business’ intranet to increase participation. The goal of gamification is to engage with consumers, employees and partners to inspire collaborate, share and interact.
Ok I like the art and the idea. But why do I want to own Bears Deluxe?
Bears Deluxe holders accumulate 1 $HONEYD token every day, and will for the next 8–10 years. Holders can keep track of their unclaimed tokens on our website. $HONEYD can be accumulated over time and claimed in bulk at the convenience of the holder, where it can then be kept track of in the holder’s Ethereum wallet.
Sup’ with the Hives?
As there are 6,900 Bears Deluxe, there are also 6,900 (animated) Hives, respectively. Upon contract migration, each Bears Deluxe reserves the right to mint and claim its respective hive. Honey Hives Deluxe are used to mint Bees Deluxe NFTs. They do NOT generate $HONEYD. There are 5 hive rarities: common, uncommon, rare, epic, legendary. Hive rarity will play a significant role in our upcoming new hive/bee leveling utility…but that will be best left for another medium article on another day.
…And the Bees?
Super glad you asked. Bees Deluxe are a collection of 20,700 that accumulate $HONEYD daily just like the Bears, however they do this at a reduced rate. Active (non-worker bees) accumulate .13 $HONEYD every day. Worker bees accumulate .09 $HONEYD every day. We will look at what is meant by worker/non-worker bees here in a minute.
Why do I want $HONEYD tokens?
$HONEYD tokens fuel the bears deluxe ecosystem and are necessary for tapping into all the features it has to offer. Such features include:
Owners of a Honey Hives Deluxe NFT can mint up to 3 Bees Deluxe NFTs out of it, each for 23 $HONEYD tokens. Bee minting is completely randomized, which gives everyone a fair chance at minting a rare bee!
Once a hive has minted 3 bees, it will become ‘depleted’. A depleted hive can no longer mint Bees Deluxe unless it is reactivated for 69 $HONEYD tokens. At this point, the cycle begins again and the holder can mint up to 3 more Bees Deluxe before having to reactivate again. And so on…
Bees Deluxe are not as easily maintainable as Bears Deluxe. Bears Deluxe chill…and accumulate honey every day with no effort. Owning bees comes with responsibility as an owner. Let’s talk about maintaining our bees in a gamified way.
Bee Maintenance
Bees are tight. We need them. If all the bees went extinct, it would destroy the delicate balance of the Earth’s ecosystem and affect global food supplies. So let’s do our part here as bee keepers to ensure the survival of our little buzz boys and girls.
Minting a Bees Deluxe is just the first stage of the ‘exBEErience’…
ALL OF THE FOLLOWING BEE ACTIONS CAN BE PERFORMED ON MULTIPLE BEES IN A SINGLE TRANSACTION
FEEDING BEES
Upon minting a Bees Deluxe, you will have 10 days (indicated by a countdown per bee on the UI) to feed your bee the necessary .23 $HONEYD to keep it alive through the next feeding cycle. If you neglect to feed your bee within the 10 days (we also snuck in a little grace period ;) ) — it will die!! If your bee dies it will stop accruing $HONEYD every day.
REVIVING DEAD BEES
We’re nerds and gamers at heart. So our ideals of resurrections and revival go beyond the standard human condition and theology practices. If your bee dies, it can be revived for 7 $HONEYD, which will allow the bee to resume accumulating $HONEYD daily.
BURNING BEES
Its your honey…burn it when you want it. You can decide to ‘burn’ your bees deluxe for an instant 12 $HONEYD. This is a free charge just pay gas. Caution: Burning a bee destroys it from existence and removes it from the collection thus reducing the collection size. Interesting mechanic.
WORKER BEES
We don’t have a staking system in our ecosystem…technically. Traditionally, staking would lock up said assets as a promise to help strengthen a given network and in return the person staking the assets would be rewarded for their help. There is no state of locking your bees to the point where they leave your wallet, or are unable to be sold on secondary. There is however, a mechanic to turn your active (non-worker) bees into worker bees for 7 $HONEYD per bee. Worker bees do not have to be fed, and you can “set ‘em and forget ‘em”. The catch is that the daily honey claim is reduced from .13 $HONEYD a day to .09 $HONEYD a day. You can revert your worker bees back to active bees at any time for free — just pay gas.
Don’t Forget The Gaming
Although these details are for a future article, it’s important to note that PixelMage and PixelKnight are more than just artists and developers. They are game designers and developers, and have experience creating retro, indy, and even more full scale games. It is the intention of the team to build a collection of retro game titles, some offering exclusive and P2E mechanics…some free to play. Each game will exist in the form of an NFT collection where every level of every game is an ownable NFT. The team has already released desktop/mobile ready beta levels of the first retro title: Hungry Bear. Moving forward, building Dapps and full scale games, potentially on layer 2 solutions is a big aim for the team. Throughout 2022, we will see Bears Deluxe pivot hard into the gaming realm, where we will continue to emphasize the production of VX and metaverse, and fun blockchain based games that take a ‘game first crypto second’ approach. In Conclusion
Bears Deluxe offers a fresh perspective on ‘long term’ utility token driven gamified NFT projects. Different strategies of acquiring our NFT’s and accumulating $HONEYD tokens suit our holders in entirely different ways. There isn’t just 1 way to play the game, and this ideal has driven the internal development of a culture within Bears Deluxe where strangers become friends and join together in solidarity to figure out the best possible ways to achieve their goals within the ecosystem! Currently, we aim to finish our bear migration ASAP! Out of 6,900 bears, we have about 800 left to migrate to the new Bears ERC 721 contract.
Upon migration completion, we will once again enjoy the luxury of Bears existing entirely on one smart contract/collection. Until then, we are pushing towards minting hives and bees, and working on some insanely awesome tech that we intend to roll out beginning mid February.
