In our last dev log we outlined the foundational work we have done for Honey Karts. We shared some short clips of gameplay to provide an idea of how the game may look and feel.

Blockchain Integration

Since our first log entry, we have continued to make great progress on Honey Karts! We have successfully developed our sign in server so that the game may be integrated into web3 technologies without being dependent on running in a web browser. Additionally, the first iteration of Honey Karts will be released as a desktop application resulting in a complete gaming experience with much better security than a browser based game. The server is already deployed to a production ready environment with both a scalable API server and database server. This means we will be able to easily track and save player data as Honey Karts grows, and we will be able to handle an increasing amount of server traffic and provide an optimal experience for simultaneous gameplay. Although the groundwork for the server and sign in flow is complete and tested, we will continue to add in additional web3 functionality moving into the release of the game.

Players will create a Honey Karts account from the deluxe website and sign a transaction tethering it to the players wallet. Players can then sign into their account easily within the Honey Karts desktop application.

Game Development Progress

On the game development side, we have made many improvements which move us closer to release. We have established custom responsive camera control code to ensure a smooth and accurate view is provided to the driver. This allows us to make more exciting track layouts by helping ensure the driver will be able to navigate them properly.

Custom responsive camera for the ultimate racing experience

Additionally, we have refined the circuit for our debut level “Bear Valley” in regards to collision responsiveness. We will continue to adjust the track to ensure it will play tight and clean and make for a fun and competitive experience every race. This is an iterative but fun process, requiring testing and adjustments until the course is optimized. We will continue to make optimizations up to and throughout the release of the initial iterations as we collect data and feedback from beta testers to help improve the overall experience.

We continue to refine track design and layout, finessing the course so that it is fun and engaging, but not too difficult or obstructive to players.

Boost off me!

To compliment the refinements to the course, we have also begun adding some fun aesthetics to the environment. We want to ensure the game stands out and is visually impactful as well as fun on the level of game mechanics. All 3D modeling, animating and materializing and sound design is being done in house by our dev/creative team.

Happy little trees

Moving Forward…

Overall, progress on the game has been great and we continue to get closer to our beta release. In our next dev log we expect to share more enhancements to the course and environment, as well as some more info on the web3 integrations. We also hope to make more progress on our animators, some more rudimentary things like UI and HUD layouts. There is still much work to be done but the vision for the beta release is getting closer and within our reach! We look forward to sharing our next deluxe dev log and ultimately our first release of this unique web3 gaming experience!
